Modern Art Gallery London from Swarm
Nathan describes his work as a reflection of the ‘everyday real’, eschewing the picture postcard vision of Cornwall to address its dingier more normal side. Cornwall is one of the poorest counties in Britain, not something that visiting big city dwellers appreciate. Nor is it something most artists, notably of the St. Ives school, admit to. He says 'I feel my work is a clean, or maybe dirty break away from what is associated with Cornwall and the art produced here'. Nathan, inspired by realists such as Jock McFayden, David Rayson and George Shaw and his own upbringing, has created a series of sincere portraits of Cornwall that comment both visually and socially.
Nathan graduated from Falmouth College of Arts in 2004 with a degree in fine art and has already had several exhibitions in Cornwall.
