The Nest
A nieghborhood artist residency program

AMY RATHBONE

Opening | Thursday, October 22, 5-8PM

PRESS RELEASE

Amy Rathbone, [Installation image at The Nest]

Swarm Gallery is pleased to welcome Amy Rathbone to The Nest, a neighborhood artist residency program in the heart of the Ironworks District. Amy is the Nest’s third artist in residence.

Amy Rathbone continues her recent series of site-specific drawings, which explore the parameters of architectural space. Rathbone's subtle mark-making invites intimacy. Viewers are drawn in by the delicate interplay of drawn and painted line. A multiplicity of visual experiences can be gained through close and investigative looking. Rathbone asks us to question not only what, but how we see, and how what we see is affected by where we are in time and space.

Oakland-based Amy Rathbone has exhibited widely in the Bay Area, New York and internationally. She has had recent solo exhibitions at Priska C. Juschka Fine Art, New York; Memorial Union Art Gallery, UC Davis; and Gregory Lind Gallery, San Francisco. Group exhibitions have included Galerie Hafemann, Wiesbaden, Germany; Glass Curtain Gallery, Chicago; and Nakaochiai Gallery, Tokyo. Rathbone earned her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2001, and her BFA from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1994. She is represented by Gregory Lind Gallery.
